Head of the Initial Group of the Gender Studies Center.
Biography
Born and studied in Uzbekistan. Have Ph.D in Economics (1993).
Areas of interest include – Human Development, Women’s and Gender issues, with the focus on Basics of Gender, Gender in Different sectors of Economic Development; Engendering Macroeconomics; Gender and Trade; Methodologies of socio-economic and gender analysis; Gender and Religion; and etc.
Since 1997 working on promoting gender with regards to the programming framework and strategies developed by the United Nations EU, EBRD, ADB, not only in Uzbekistan, but also internationally. Was able to work on the developing and implementation of the National Action Plans on Improving Women’s Status in different countries: Azerbaijan, Bangladesh, Moldova, Maldives, Somalia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Vietnam, and others. I provided advisory services to the National Women’s Organizations, Governments, Women’s movements on promoting gender equality and women’s empowerment.
Trainer of Socio-Economic and Gender Analysis methodologies, conducted gender awareness trainings, developed specific methodological and analytical tools to promote gender equality at the Government level in Muslim patriarchal societies, which are very helpful to convince Government officials to accept gender equality issues and to plan related actions.
Academia background helps to promote Gender in the context of Human Development at different levels from Micro to Macro. Author of several publications and analytical papers, presented worldwide.
A grandmother of two beautiful granddaughters and very interested to learn more about opportunities to contribute to the development of nondiscriminatory environment for them.
Magfirat Muminiva, member of the Center
Born and educated in Uzbekistan . PhD in Biological Science (2005).
Areas of interest – human development with the focus on social impact of Environment and Climate Change. The impcat of thermal power plants on Environment, has more than 10 years of policy and operational experience related to environmental and social impact assessments and climate change under the support of UNDP, EU, EBRD, ADB and other donor organizations in Uzbekistan. .
Participated in the projects on Djizzak Sanitation System Developemnt, Improvement of Health system in Uzbekistan, Tashkent water and wastwater modernization , Power Generation Efficiency Improvement and others.
Trainer on methodologies of ecological education. Experienced in different types of projects, particularly energy management, sanitation development, the management and administration of resettlement.
Mother of two adult daughters studying at the Universities of Germany and Latvia.
